DESCRIPTION
Solid Gear Metal is a top down singleplayer stealth survival game inspired by Metal Gear Solid. It follows a secret agent as he attempts to infiltrate an enemy base in the mountains to uncover their secret weapon - a giant minigun grafted cyborg lobster!
BACKSTORY
Solid Gear Metal was created for a game design and scripting class in my final year of University in which we used Unreal Engine 5. Over the course of the class, we designed prototypes of several different games across genres and were told to use bits and pieces of them to create one final game at the end. I decided to focus mainly on the stealth game prototype we worked on since I wanted my final project to be inspired by Metal Gear Solid. Over the course of the semester, I concepted out some basic levels and mechanics I wanted to include in the final product. I compiled assets found on the unreal marketplace, sketchfab, and Quixel megascans to construct the environments and did the UI graphics myself. I also used some AI voice modulation for the voice lines.
TECHNICAL HISTORY (FOR NERDS)
The game engine used for this project was Unreal Engine 5.1 with a few plugins installed to make development easier. Quixel Megascans was used for a majority of the environment although I modeled and textured some things like the platforms and parts of the base myself using Maya 2022 and Substance Painter. Voicemod and Audacity were used for the voice lines and other sound effects. Photoshop and Illustrator were used for a majority of the UI and other graphical assets.
