Lead Developer and Environment Designer

DESCRIPTION

Myth of Fire follows an ancient fire spirit journeying through the physical realm trying to find his way back to the spirit world while an evil force attempts to stop him at all costs.  This game was designed as a wave based platform brawler where each stage presents its own difficult waves and bosses.

BACKSTORY

Myth Of Fire was originally started as part of a team game design project for University.  The team was comprised of six people including two developers, two artists, one sound designer, and one writer.  We spent about 4 months during the semester working on the game and eventually release a short demo showcasing everything we were able to accomplish during that time.  There were plans to continue development on the project but sadly many of the team members moved on and development was halted.

TECHNICAL HISTORY (FOR NERDS)

First, concepts for art were storyboarded and the story was written.  General themes, control schemes, and style choices were then made.  We knew we wanted our project to be a platformer but we also wanted it to be somewhat different so we decided to go with the 2.5D look.  I developed a few prototypes in Unity after this each exploring different combat methods, level design choices, and enemy types.  We then connected the project to a github repository for better source control between team members.  We had three different demos during the semester with different goals being achieved at each one.  Our first demo showcased basic combat and movement as well as a very crude implementation of my wave system.  The second demo introduced a final boss to the first level as well as a somewhat finished environment.  The third and final demo was for the finished game; to playtest with everyone else in the class.
